Time Is Money!

We should all bow and kiss the toes of our wonderful Representatives!  We should all thank them for spending their day raising more funds for their next election instead of doing their jobs.  Credit where credit is due, part of my rules. Part of credit where credit is due is when someone does something that is at least noteworthy, not necessarily good.

These are sections out of a few SENATOR’s websites concerning Federal Agencies.

  • Important Information My office can help you if: You are a Virginia resident. If you are a resident of another state, please contact your U.S. Senators”  VA Senator Kaine website
  • “I am honored to represent you in the United States Senate and am here to help in any way possible. My staff and I can assist you when you are having problems with a federal agency, ….. please remember that federal agencies have discretion concerning decisions on individual cases and have the final say on the outcome.” IN Senator Donnelly website
  • The privacy Act of 1974 prohibits the government from revealing any information from personal files of individuals without the express permission of the person involved. To consent to having Senator Grassley act on your behalf, please fill out this consent release form.” IA Senator Grassley website

The above are just a few randomly chosen statements on websites of Senators.  There are many Congressmen that have at least made the advancement of letting the public know that they are “willing” to help with a Federal Agency.  I completely commend them.  HOWEVER, “willing to help” and doing something about the problem are two completely different things.  I picked the three statements above for a reason out of the randomly selected Senator websites.

VA Senator Kaine websiteImportant Information My office can help you if: You are a Virginia resident. If you are a resident of another state, please contact your U.S. Senators

The first statement by Senator Kaine concerns a growing issue in an ever shrinking world.  Problems that face the entire nation do not just effect those in your own state but many times, those problems effect every single person who is a United States Citizen.  Especially when Senators pass laws that take money from vital national programs and place that money in the hands of non-profit organizations to investigate, for instance, how many bugs are on a grapevine in California.  No kidding here!  If a Senator takes money away from any vital National program to place that money into a state funded program, that Senator should have to answer every single email, letter, or phone concerning any National issue.

IN Senator Donnelly website“I am honored to represent you in the United States Senate and am here to help in any way possible. My staff and I can assist you when you are having problems with a federal agency, ….. please remember that federal agencies have discretion concerning decisions on individual cases and have the final say on the outcome.”

This is a Senator  that makes laws for federal agencies to follow then those agencies get to make little “sublaws”, better known as regulations, to enforce those laws but Mr. Donnelly wrote that he can’t really do anything about that because “federal agencies have discretion concerning decisions on individual cases and have the final say on the outcome.”  I had a hard time believing that line so I did a quick internet search to find out what a Senator (Congress) is really paid for.  I found this: “Congressional oversight refers to oversight by the congress United States on the Executive Branch, including the numerous U.S. federal agencies. Congressional oversight refers to the review, monitoring, and supervision of federal agencies, programs, activities, and policy implementation.”  While Senator Donnelly may have been correct about “individual cases”, he failed to tell everyone that he and all of his fellow Senators are the reason you may be having a problem because they are responsible for making the laws for federal agencies to follow to begin with.  It is Congress’ duty to make sure that Federal Agencies, such as the USDA, follow the rules to prevent fraud, Abuse, and Waste in Federal Agencies.

IA Senator Grassley websiteThe privacy Act of 1974 prohibits the government from revealing any information from personal files of individuals without the express permission of the person involved. To consent to having Senator Grassley act on your behalf, please fill out this consent release form.”

I left this one for last because it is THE WORST statement from a PAID Senator.  While most may think that it is quite alright to give consent to a Senator to release your personal information, I would have to disagree.  This is a round-about way for the Senator to say I’m not going to use my name but I’ll sure use yours.  Let’s not mention the fact that the privacy Act of 1974, of which your Senators are responsible for enacting, “allows” the Senator to cop-out of doing his job.  One of the reasons we HIRE Senators is to protect us from the “bad guys.”  How can this work effectively if the Senator turns around and gives personal information to whomever is involved in the problem to begin with?   I’ve done this for a Senator and received no follow-up information about the results of what he had accomplished.  Not to mention the fact that I spent my own time, my own money, and my own initiative to make him aware of something he should have already taken care of and is PAID to do.  I’m not the only person that has done this.  There are many.

Could I have been doing something else instead of the Senator’s job?  Sure, my garden needed to be taken care of, animals needed feeding, laundry needed washed, along with the hundreds of other chores that went to the way-side because of spending my time doing their job.  Why are we paying Senators to do this type of work when all we see in the news is a Senator having lunch with someone or out fundraising for their next re-election?  Why are individual citizens having to use their own time is money and cash when our Senators and their staff are PAID to do this for us?
