Just Fillin’ The Pocket Book!

So what’s the USDA Secretary’s wife doing lately.  After getting so lucky to land the USAID job, BTW: USAID is a USDA program sending money and food to FOREIGN Countries-nothing like working for the hubby!, Mrs. Tom Vilsack throws her weight around by endorsing Democrat Jim Mowrer to run against the Republican Steve King.  (This should get good in the coming months)   He sounds like a wonderful candidate at first glance.  He’s young, married with the 2 kids and served in the military.  But where the heck does he stand on the real issues?  Like, doesn’t he know that Mrs. Christie Vilsack took money from HSUS and that her husband endorses most of HSUS programs, an animal rights is wrong group.  Mr. and Mrs. Vilsack may not like steak but I sure do!

Checking on Mr. Mowrer’s webpage for “why I want to run” was a lot of “Congress isn’t getting the job done” and “I’ll work hard for you” and this one was my fav! “I can promise that I will always put this country first, I will always put Iowa first and I will always put you first.”  Goodness, so which one is first?  The country, Iowa or you?  How many Ewes is he talking to?  Then on the blogforiowa he says he’ll “always put Iowa 4th district first.”  So who’s on first, second, and third?

The one piece of information I found concerning animals about Mr. Mowrer was that he wants his opponent, Steve King, to get back to work on the Farm Bill.  Well, maybe Mr. Mowrer doesn’t realize that the HSUS’s influence over Tom and Christie Vilsack was trying to prevent the King Amendment in the Farm Bill from passing.  For some reason, HSUS doesn’t feel that videos of animal abuse should be turned over to the authorities within 48 hours.  I wonder why that is?

Back to Christie Vilsack’s agenda.  Most might have missed this headline in the news.  “Miles to Go: Shumlin Seeks Travel Savings While Jetting to D.C.”  Sounds irrelevant to those interested in animal welfare but wait, take a look.  Shumlin is Vermont’s governor.   On Aug 14, 2013 a Vermont paper told us all about him.  “Shumlin administration ordered agency and department heads to cut their travel budgets by 10 percent this fiscal year…. he jetted off to D.C. that very day on a taxpayer-financed trip to give a speech — and to raise money for the partisan political group he chairs, the Democratic Governors Association. “The governor was invited by USAID because he actually knows Christie Vilsack,”….. Shumlin says he won’t accept pharmaceutical company contributions to his personal campaign account, but under his watch, the DGA has accepted $250,000 from AstraZeneca, $100,000 from Merck and $300,000 from the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.”  This story goes on but who in the USDA is a senior lawyer for DuPont Merck?  The most senior lawyer to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack, Ramona Romera appointed by President Obama!

And how does Shumlin stand on animal rights issues?  According to Vermont Humane “H. 50 (the pet dealer bill). This new law requires commercial breeders of three or more litters per year to comply with the state‚ animal welfare regulations” .  Meaning they have to be licensed by the state and open to police inspections, in their HOMES.  “Governor Peter Shumlin signed the bill in his ceremonial office on May 14, 2013, with supporters crowding the room, including the HSUS, the ASPCA, the Vermont Veterinary Medical Association, the Vermont Federation of Dog Clubs, the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, and members of the House Committee on Agriculture & Forest Products.”  They all gave thanks to Rep. John Bartholomew (D-Hartland), the bill sponsor.

Gov. Shumlin also passed a prohibition of ownership of any pig other than the kind that “big business” has, another HSUS bill.   He was also happy to see that HSUS was successful in stopping a bill that would prohibit anyone from withholding video of animal abuse.  I suppose I can see why Christie Vilsack, employed by USAID, would be friends with Govenor Shumlin from Vermont.

OK, so none of us are perfect.  But why would Tom Vilsack endorse the same candidates that the Humane Society of the United States does?  Money where your mouth is.  Obviously, the USDA Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack believes in just that!
